Both systems at once — and the spellings that change it.

Only letters and spaces count. Digits and punctuation are ignored — we will say so when that happens.

The two systems disagree here — Chaldean 1, Pythagorean 7. That is normal: the Chaldean table has no 9, the Pythagorean one does. Why they differ

⚠️ A different number is a different number — not a better one. Nothing here predicts how a business will do. Check any spelling against the MCA register before you file it.

The letter tables

This is the whole method: every letter has a value, you add them up, and you add the digits of the total until one digit is left. The two tables disagree, which is why two websites can give you two different numbers for the same name.

Chaldean

1 to 8 — no letter is ever 9
1
A I J Q Y
2
B K R
3
C G L S
4
D M T
5
E H N X
6
U V W
7
O Z
8
F P

There is no row for 9. In this tradition 9 is not given to any letter, though a total can still reduce to 9.

Pythagorean

1 to 9, in plain alphabetical order
1
A J S
2
B K T
3
C L U
4
D M V
5
E N W
6
F O X
7
G P Y
8
H Q Z
9
I R

Other ways to get a business name number

Approach Best for Trade-off
Count it by hand One name, and you want to understand the method rather than trust a box Easy to slip on the Chaldean table, because it is not alphabetical — and a single wrong letter changes the final number
Another online name calculator You only need one number and do not care which system produced it Most show a single number without saying which table they used, so two sites give two answers and neither explains why
A numerologist in person You want the reading discussed against your birth date and your family practice Costs money and takes time; the arithmetic underneath is still the same table
This calculator You are choosing between spellings before registration and want both systems and the alternatives at once It will not tell you which number is good — that judgement is not ours to make, and we do not pretend to it

Where this tool stops being the right one — and what to reach for instead.

Words you will meet on numerology sites

Chaldean system
A letter-to-number table running 1 to 8, with no 9 assigned to any letter. It is the system most commonly used in Indian practice, and it is the default here.
Pythagorean system
A letter-to-number table running 1 to 9, assigned in plain alphabetical order: A=1, B=2, and so on to I=9, then starting again at J=1.
Name number
The single digit you get by adding the value of every letter and then adding the digits of that total until one digit remains.
Compound number
The total before it is reduced — 47 rather than 2. Some readings treat the compound number as carrying its own meaning.
Master number
The totals 11, 22 and 33, which are left as they are instead of being reduced to 2, 4 and 6. They are read separately in Chaldean practice.
Legal suffix
The Pvt Ltd, LLP or Limited at the end of a registered name. Whether it is counted differs between practitioners, and it changes the answer.
Respelling
Writing the same name differently — Rajesh as Raajesh or Rajeshh — so the letters add to a different total while the name still sounds the same.

Questions people ask about company name numbers

Which system should I use, Chaldean or Pythagorean?
In Indian practice the Chaldean table is the usual choice, and it is the default here. We show both because they genuinely disagree, and because the site you check next will probably use the other one — better to know that in advance than to be surprised by it.
Why do two websites give my company name different numbers?
Almost always because they use different tables and do not say which. The Chaldean table assigns 1 to 8 and never 9; the Pythagorean table assigns 1 to 9 in alphabetical order. The same name run through both gives two different totals — that is arithmetic, not a mistake on either side. A second cause is the legal suffix: counting Pvt Ltd or leaving it out changes the total.
Should Pvt Ltd or LLP be counted?
Practice is split, and we are not going to pretend it is settled. The switch above the result lets you see both totals. What matters is that you know which convention produced the number you are looking at.
Is my company name sent to your server?
No. The whole calculation runs in your browser: there is no request, no log entry, and the name never appears in the page address. An unregistered company name is commercial information, and the safest way to keep it is not to collect it. This is enforced by the code, not by a promise — the tool has no server-side handler at all.
Does the calculator store what I type?
No. Nothing is written to local storage, to cookies or to the address bar. Close the tab and it is gone.
What are 11, 22 and 33, and why are they not reduced?
They are called master numbers, and in Chaldean practice they are read on their own rather than being folded down to 2, 4 and 6. The calculator checks for them at every step of the reduction, not only at the first total — so a sum of 38 stops at 11 instead of continuing to 2.
What happens to digits, punctuation and accents in a name?
Only letters and spaces are counted. Digits and punctuation are dropped, and the calculator tells you how many it dropped rather than quietly ignoring them. Accented letters are folded to plain ones, so Rajésh counts as Rajesh.
Does capitalisation change the result?
No. Tata, tata and TATA all give the same number — the name is folded to one case before anything is counted.
How does the spelling search work?
It applies the changes that are actually used on Indian names — lengthening a vowel, doubling a consonant, adding a trailing h or a, and swaps that do not change the sound such as k and c. It applies up to three of them, checks up to 1 200 spellings, and groups the results by the number they produce.
Can I enter a name in Hindi or another Indian script?
Not usefully, and the calculator will say so rather than return a number. Transliterating Devanagari to Latin letters involves choices — one vowel or two, h or no h — and those choices are exactly what changes the total. A number built on our guess about your spelling would be worse than no number. Type the Latin spelling you intend to register.
Is a higher number better than a lower one?
No, and no number here is marked as good or bad. Traditions attach different associations to different numbers, and those associations are what the number pages describe. Nothing on this site predicts revenue, growth or luck.
Can I use this before registering with the MCA?
That is what it is for — the point of the spelling search is that the name is still changeable. Do check availability on the MCA portal separately: we hold no register and make no lookups.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, and there is nothing to install. The whole thing is one field and a result, and because the counting is local it works the same on a slow connection.
Why does the result change when I add a word to the name?
Every letter contributes, so a longer name has a larger total and usually a different final digit. This is also why the legal suffix switch matters: Pvt Ltd is seven more letters.
